Healthy older woman from a Blue Zone with glowing skin

We talk a lot about aging well, but the truth is, it’s about more than just living longer — it’s about feeling good in your skin every day. The truth is, some of the most beautiful people I’ve seen are living simple lives in places where health and happiness go hand in hand.

These places are called Blue Zones, where people have figured out how to live longer and healthier lives They enjoy simple routines that nourish their skin, their bodies, and their happiness.

In this post, let’s explore what people in these remarkable regions eat, how they care for their skin, and the simple habits that keep them looking and feeling their best. These are real, everyday practices that we can all try, no matter where we live.

What Are Blue Zones?

Blue Zones are places in the world where people live longer, healthier lives. Dan Buettner, who worked with National Geographic first identified these longevity hotspots and studied their common characteristics in collaboration with demographers and researchers. The concept of Blue Zones has since inspired global interest in adopting lifestyle changes that promote health, wellness, and potentially, greater longevity based on the principles observed in these remarkable communities.

The five Blue Zones are:

  • Ikaria, Greece
  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Sardinia, Italy
  • Loma Linda, California
  • Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica

People in these places share simple habits:

  • Natural movement every day
  • A mostly plant-based diet
  • Close connections with family and community
  • Strong sense of purpose
  • Natural skincare from local ingredients

Now, let’s look at how each Blue Zone cares for their skin and body from the inside out.

Ikaria, Greece: Olive Oil and a Slower Pace

Diet:
Ikarians enjoy a Mediterranean diet full of local vegetables, wild greens, legumes, and olive oil. Fish is eaten in small amounts, and herbs like oregano and sage are daily staples.

Skincare:
Olive oil isn’t just for cooking. It’s also used as a natural moisturizer, packed with antioxidants and vitamin E. Aloe vera grows locally and is perfect for soothing skin.

Lifestyle:
Life moves at a relaxed pace in Ikaria. People take afternoon naps and spend time outdoors. Less stress means healthier skin and a healthier you.

Okinawa, Japan: Turmeric and Community

Diet:
Okinawans eat lots of vegetables, soy products, sweet potatoes, and seaweed. They enjoy small portions of fish and practice “hara hachi bu,” which means eating until they’re 80% full.

Skincare:
Turmeric is a favorite in both cooking and skincare. Its anti-inflammatory power helps keep skin calm and healthy. Green tea is another favorite, used both as a drink and a skin soother.

Lifestyle:
Daily movement like gardening and walking is part of life. Strong community ties — called Moai — help reduce stress and keep spirits high.

Sardinia, Italy: Red Wine and Natural Remedies

Physical work is part of everyday life, whether it’s farming or walking in the hills. Sardinians value family and community, which keeps them connected and supported.

Many people here follow a plant-based diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. Processed foods, caffeine, and alcohol are mostly avoided.

Lifestyle:
Exercise, community, and spiritual practice play a big role. Weekly rest days allow time to recharge and reduce stress.

Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica: Sun-Kissed Simplicity

Give me 30 days to change your body🔥 I’m 62, a mo Give me 30 days to change your body🔥

I’m 62, a mom of 5, a grandmother of 1, and I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. And I did it in 30 minutes a day from my living room.

Not because I have more time than you. Not because I have a fancy gym or the perfect schedule. But because I found a way to train that actually works for this season of life, and I put it all into the Strong in 30 challenge.

You don’t need an hour, a gym, or to be in your 30s or 40s to build a body you’re proud of. You just need the right 30 minutes and the commitment to show up.

The Strong in 30 Challenge starts August 3rd. 30 days of 30-minute workouts built for women 50+, with every exercise designed to build real strength without beating up your joints.

After 20 years training women over 50, I can tell After 20 years training women over 50, I can tell you exactly who transforms — and who quits by week 2. And it’s not who you’d think. 💛 Let me explain 👇
The women who quit aren’t lazy or weak. They’re waiting to feel motivated. But motivation is a flake — it shows up some mornings and ghosts you the rest. So around week 2, when it goes quiet, so do they.
The women who level up don’t wait for motivation at all. They follow a simple plan, do a little every day, and let the habit carry them on the days they don’t feel like it. That’s the whole difference — not talent, not time, not willpower.
So I built you the plan: Strong in 30 — a free 4-week challenge starting August 3rd, for women 50+. It runs on my L.I.F.T. Method: Lift, Intention, Fuel, Track. Four small things a day. Joint-friendly, doable, and built to keep.
You don’t need more willpower. You need a plan you’ll actually follow. This is it. ⭐️

I think it’s time every woman over 50 does the same. You don’t need to shrink. Your best days at the gym aren’t behind you.

I’m not working out because I want to look good in a swimsuit. I’m working out because I want to be strong. Genuinely, functionally, unapologetically strong.

I want to carry my own groceries, keep up with my grandkids, and feel proud of what my body can do - not just what it looks like.

The body I’m building doesn’t have an age limit.

If you’re ready to build yours, the Strong in 30 Challenge starts August 3rd.

30 days. 30 minutes a day. Joint-friendly workouts built for women 50+ who are done playing small and ready to show up for themselves.

Let’s build something we’re proud of, because age has no limits ❤️🔥
