Life’s Adventures at 60 and Beyond:

Rediscovering Joy Through Travel

Why travel now? The answer is simple—because you can. For years, travel may have taken a backseat to raising kids, building a career, or keeping up with life’s endless responsibilities. But now? The timing couldn’t be better. With fewer obligations and more flexibility, your 60s are a chance to explore the world in ways that truly light you up.

Whether you’re dreaming of that once-in-a-lifetime trip or simply craving a change of scenery, this chapter is about traveling for the joy of it—and doing it completely on your own terms.

1. You Get to Travel Your Way

No more squeezing trips into long weekends. Now you set the No more planning around school breaks or vacation days. Now you get to decide what your trip looks like—every part of it.

  • Want to spend two weeks in one small town? Go for it.
  • Prefer a weekend close to home? That works too.
  • Feel like trying a group trip? Or going solo? You can do both.

I’ve found that slow travel—staying in one place and really settling in—makes it easier to connect with the local rhythm. You notice more, enjoy more, and leave feeling like you were really part of it.

2. Bucket Lists Were Made for This Season

Most of us have a list of places we’ve always wanted to see. Maybe you wrote it down. Maybe it’s just in the back of your mind. Either way, now’s the time to bring it to life.

Last summer, I finally visited Portugal. I wandered the streets, tried new foods, and felt completely present. It was something I couldn’t have done before—and it was worth every step.

Your dream might be big or small. A quiet café in Paris. A beach you haven’t seen in years. A road trip you’ve always talked about. If it lights you up, it belongs on your list.

3. Travel as Self-Care? Absolutely

Who knew travel could double as self-care? It’s great for your body and mind. Exploring new environments, learning different languages, and engaging in social interactions keep the mind sharp and active.

It wakes up your senses. It gets you moving. And it sparks curiosity, which is one of the best things you can feed your mind as you age.

One of my most meaningful trips was a low-key hiking retreat. We weren’t scaling mountains—we were walking, talking, and reconnecting with nature. I came home feeling stronger, happier, and more alive.

4. The People You Meet Along the Way

Some of the best parts of travel aren’t on the itinerary—they’re the people you meet along the way. The kindness of a stranger or a shared laugh with a fellow traveler can leave a lasting impression.

I once met a fellow wellness lover at a retreat. We bonded over fitness tips, and that connection has become a lasting friendship we continue to cherish. These moments remind me that travel is about more than just places; it’s about the stories and relationships that come with it.

5. Discounts and Deals Made for You

Let’s talk perks: Traveling after 60 comes with a lot of them.

  • Airlines, hotels, and museums often offer senior discounts.
  • Group tours for 50+ travelers cater to comfort, safety, and social connection.
  • Many destinations go out of their way to welcome seasoned explorers.

These extras mean more freedom—and more savings—for the adventures that matter most.

6. Top Places to Visit for Travelers Over 50

Not sure where to go next? Here are some destinations that cater to curiosity, relaxation, and discovery:

  • Tuscany, Italy: Perfect for slow travel and indulging in the region’s wine, food, and scenic countryside.
  • Kyoto, Japan: A peaceful mix of historic temples, gardens, and serene tea houses.
  • Santa Fe, New Mexico: Known for its vibrant art scene, rich culture, and stunning desert landscapes.
  • The Canadian Rockies: Breathtaking views and plenty of opportunities for gentle hikes or scenic train rides.
  • Portugal’s Algarve Coast: A sunny escape with charming villages and gorgeous beaches.

Final Thoughts

Traveling after 60 is about rediscovering the joy of exploration on your own terms. It’s a chance to slow down, connect with new experiences, and create memories that enrich your life. Whether it’s for health, fun, or simply the thrill of trying something new, this is your time to savor every moment.

But this? This is the reason I train. At 61, getting back up easy and not breaking anything on the way down isn’t luck. It’s the work. Joint-friendly, every time.

61 in my world means early morning workouts, hiking trails, ski slopes, and showing up for my life. It means strong legs, capable arms, and a body I’ve worked hard to take care of ⛷️🏔️💪

Aging is inevitable. But now you age? That’s a choice. Every single day I choose to move, to lift, to show up, and to prove the best years aren’t behind us. They’re being built right now❤️

Age has no limits! Three generations 61, 40 and 9 Age has no limits!

Three generations 61, 40 and 9 staying strong.— and it started with me 💪🏼

I didn’t set out to make strength a family thing. It happened the way the important stuff does — my kids grew up watching me train, and now my nine-year-old grandson is watching too.

To him, a grandmother who lifts and moves and keeps pace isn’t unusual. It’s just what we do.

That’s the real reason I keep showing up on the days I’d rather not.

Not for a photo — so I can stay IN it with them, in the gym, on the trail, for the next 30 years 💛

The best example I’ll ever set isn’t something I say. It’s something they get to watch me do.
