Achieving Your Goals: Simple Tips and Resources to Help You Succeed

October 26, 2025June 19, 2026 LIFESTYLE

Ready to reach your goals? Here are my favorite personal tips and helpful tools to stay motivated, focused, and move forward at any age.

We’ve all been there—setting ambitious goals only to feel overwhelmed and stuck halfway through. Trust me, I’ve been there too. But over time, I’ve learned a few simple strategies that helped me not only achieve my goals but also enjoy the process. Whether you’re tackling resolutions or aiming for a lifestyle upgrade, these tips can make your journey smoother, less stressful, and even fun.

1. Set Realistic Goals

When I needed to lose a little weight, I didn’t aim to drop 10 pounds all at once. Instead, I set a smaller, more manageable target of 5 pounds. Once I achieved that, I moved on to the next 5 pounds.

This approach made the entire process less overwhelming and more encouraging. Breaking a big goal into smaller milestones can help you stay motivated and actually enjoy those small victories along the way.

Check out Atomic Habits by James Clear. It’s a fantastic book about how small changes can lead to big results.

2. Write Down Your Goals and Post Them Where You’ll See Them

I’ve found that writing down my goals and sticking them on the fridge works wonders. It’s a constant reminder of what I’m working toward. If you live with family, they’ll also see it and (hopefully!) offer support or celebrate with you when you check off a goal.

Sharing your goals can be scary, but it also makes you more accountable. And let’s face it—who doesn’t like a cheer squad at home?

Try using goal-setting apps like Trello or Notion to organize your list digitally.

3. Set Achievable Deadlines

No one can accomplish everything overnight, and that’s okay. I learned that spreading my deadlines over weeks or months helped me stay focused without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Start small and give yourself plenty of time. Each success will build your confidence and keep you motivated for the next step.

4. Consider Lifestyle Changes

This is a tough one, but it’s so important. I’ll admit, I’ve lost 10 pounds only to gain it all back because I went right back to my old habits. It wasn’t until I made real lifestyle changes—like eating healthier and exercising consistently—that I saw lasting results.

Remember, the goal isn’t just to achieve something for a short time; it’s to create habits that will support you for years to come.

The MyFitnessPal app is a great way to track your meals and exercise. Plus, it’s free!

5. Stay Flexible

Even with the best plans, life happens. It’s important to re-evaluate your goals regularly and be okay with adjusting them when necessary. If something isn’t working, change your approach.

Achieving goals isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. Learn from both your successes and setbacks. And most importantly, have fun along the way—it’s your life, after all!

Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection is a great read about embracing the messiness of life and still moving forward.

Final Thoughts

Setting and achieving goals doesn’t have to be stressful. Break them into smaller milestones, write them down for visibility and accountability, set realistic deadlines, make lasting lifestyle changes, and stay flexible. These practical strategies worked for me and can help you, too! Don’t forget to enjoy the journey—life’s too short not to celebrate along the way.

Final Thoughts

Goals don’t get reached in heroic bursts — they get reached in small, repeatable actions you actually keep doing. Pick one, make it tiny, and start.

But this? This is the reason I train. At 61, getting back up easy and not breaking anything on the way down isn’t luck. It’s the work. Joint-friendly, every time.

Age has no limits! Three generations 61, 40 and 9 Age has no limits!

Three generations 61, 40 and 9 staying strong.— and it started with me 💪🏼

I didn’t set out to make strength a family thing. It happened the way the important stuff does — my kids grew up watching me train, and now my nine-year-old grandson is watching too.

To him, a grandmother who lifts and moves and keeps pace isn’t unusual. It’s just what we do.

That’s the real reason I keep showing up on the days I’d rather not.

Not for a photo — so I can stay IN it with them, in the gym, on the trail, for the next 30 years 💛

The best example I’ll ever set isn’t something I say. It’s something they get to watch me do.
